Schacht Hand carders are very nice looking and the curved carders have a pronounced curve. They have a small lip milled into the rear edge of the paddle to protect the card clothing from becoming worn and the handles have been precisely tenoned into the paddles for superior strength.
They are available in three gauges of carding cloth:
- 72 tpi - all purpose wool and other long staple fibers
- 112 tpi - fine wool and downy fibers
- 208 tpi - cotton and other short staple fibers
The mini carders are a pint-sized version of our curved wool cards. At about half the weight, they are an easy size to take to a class or on a road trip, or just out and about with your drop spindle. Available only with 72 tpi carding cloth.
The cotton carders are wider than the wool carders. With 208 points per square inch, our cotton cards are excellent for cotton and other short fibers.

I had never tried carding
"I had never tried carding but had heard the Schacht hand carders were good, so although I don't have any point of reference, I think they are very easy to use. I made a bunch of rolags after watching some youtube videos and spun it up into some pretty nice yarn! They fit comfortably in my hand and I didn't feel any hand fatigue. Love them!"
