Double drive spinning wheels have been with us for hundreds of years. With a double drive set-up the drive band is used in a doubled-over fashion (two loops); it goes around the wheel twice and around the whorl with one loop and the bobbin pulley with the other loop.. A double drive wheel works very well, but changing the bobbin on the spindle can slow down the spinning experience. You must remove the flyer, carefully remove the drive band from the whorl and bobbin and set them aside so they do not fall off the wheel, unscrew the whorl and remove it, then remove the bobbin and replace it with a new bobbin. Then reverse the process - hopefully you still have the whorl handy and the drive band is not down around the floor. The Kromski Quick Change Flyer removes a number of steps and you do not have to deal with the drive band or the whorl at all - they stay on the wheel. This quick process is described below with pictures and as you will see, it is made possible with an innovative design that allows the flyer spindle to "break" from the front orifice section and flyer arms. Follow the descriptions and pictures below to learn how everything works. |

Here is a Kromski Polonaise set up with the Quick Change Flyer. The wood parts in the light brown are the parts that come with the QC (maiden posts, flyer, 3 bobbins and bobbin pulley). The QC fits perfectly on all the Kromski wheels - Mazurka, Polonaise, Symphony and Minstrel. |

To remove the QC flyer pop the front of the flyer out of the leather bearing and angle off to the right. |

Hold the back of the flyer - either the whorl or the back of the bobbin. Take hold of the front of the flyer. |

Pull the front of the flyer towards you to break the joint in the spindle. Place the flyer on your lap. |

Here is what is left - your empty spindle, the bobbin pulley and the whorl. Note that the drive band is still in place on both the bobbin pulley and the whorl. You did not have to remove the drive band or unscrew the whorl. |
