Backings & Foundations
SCOTTISH BURLAP: made from jute, this backing material is easy and economical to use. 60" wide.
MONK'S CLOTH: very popular with rughookers, this is made of cotton and will stretch more than the burlap, making it a little bit of a challenge for the beginner; however it is stronger and more durable than burlap.
NATURAL LINEN: An even weave material. Enables you to hook with both wide and narrow strips of wool.

Rug Hooking Frames
Rug hooking should be done in a frame which should not be too large (if the work needs to rest in the lap) with one hand and the hook on top and the other hand and wool strip on the bottom. Using a frame stand allows more maneuverability. The goal of the frame is to keep the base fabric taught and the grain lines straight while hooking the rug.
