Ms. Barber has a thorough understanding of the archaeological part that textiles play in our understanding of other cultures and of history. In this book, the Urumchi mummies discovery is discussed.

The Urumchi appear to be caucasian rather than oriental.  This suggests that there was settlement from the West.

These naturally preserved mummies were shroud in woven garments. Ms. Barber evaluates these textiles and adds details about the people of the area.  

A great read for those interested in history and textiles.
