A truly portable, folding wheel that features 4 ratios (6, 8, 12 and 15 to 1), 15 3/4" wheel diameter, weighs about 11 lbs and folds into a compact size enabling it to fit into a carry-on suitcase or in its own cotton canvas tote (optional). The ball bearings make it effortless to treadle and it comes completely assembled and finished, ready to spin. It includes 3 bobbins (Ashford regular bobbins) and a built-in Lazy Kate. The wheel is now made of veneered MDF, a high density engineered wood product that has proven to be very durable and warp resistant.

ASHFORD KIWI SPINNING WHEEL - Freebies with purchase (see below)

A double treadle wheel from Ashford that was introduced for Fall-Winter 1997. It makes an excellent beginner wheel due to its affordable price.

Features include: Double Treadle design allows for easy stopping/starting and changing wheel direction while leaving hands free. Treadles are hinged to allow heel-toe action. Simple scotch tension system and polycord, stretchy drive band. Rear wheel mounting allows for easy band changing.

The Kiwi wheel has two ratios: 5.5:1 and 8:1. Flyer orifice is 10 mm (a little over 3/8 inch). Large solid drive wheel that is 17.5 inches in diameter allows for good momentum and smooth, unhurried treadling. Easy assembly, takes just a few minutes with an allen wrench (supplied). Centrally located flyer allows for use by either right-handed or left-handed spinners. Sturdy construction. Lightweight and easy to carry. The wheel itself is made of MDF, a high density engineered wood product that has proven to be very durable and warp resistant; it stains very well. The ASHFORD CHARKHA SPINNING WHEEL

The new Ashford "charkha" is an upright accelerated quill spindle wheel. Made of New Zeland silverbeech, it features a tapered stainless steel spindle, ball bearings for smooth action, a polyband, adjustable tension and rubber feet for tabletop spinning. The 9" wheel can be assembled for either left or right hand cranking and 2 ratios are possible: 16 and 80 to 1 (the latter when using the accelerating countershaft). The wheel comes with a Danish oil finish.

This Ashford wheel may not be your everyday wheel but for special spinning jobs and as a workhorse for plying large quantities from smaller bobbins, it is perfect. It has a huge bobbin capacity of two plus pounds. This means if you are spinning big or novelty yarns you can spin and spin and not worry about filling up small bobbins found on nearly all wheels. If you think of the Country Wheel as a tool for the right jobs, rather than just a spinning wheel, your options are many.

ASHFORD LACE FLYER KIT: for Traditional and Traveller single drive wheels, this add-on allows you to spin any fiber into fine, high yardage yarn. Kit includes flyer, maidens with ball bearing fittings, three large core lace bobbins and all the other fittings needed. Traditional Ratios: 15, 20, 30 and 40:1 (high of 30:1 if using the optional elastic band (included)); Traveller Ratios: 12, 16, 24 and 30:1 (high of 25:1 if using the optional elastic band (included)).
